2015 Junior Opening Sunday, May 24

It was warm and sunny, although windy day, but that did not stop the terrific scoring by the 25 participants in this years scramble format.

The team of Scott Jensen, Baden Drummond, Devon Kissman and Ryan Horvath went into a playoff vs, Brett Barr, Joseph Lalonde, Mark Sutherland and Maverick Pretty.  Each team shooting a blistering 60!!

Brett, Joseph, Mark and Maverick came out on top after the first playoff hole.  Great job guys!!  It was really nice to see everyone marching up the fairway, seems like new friends were met right away on the day.
Closest to the pin winners were: Matt Swant, Scott Jensen and Ryan Horvath

Next event is the first of 2 rounds for the Junior Intersectional team on Saturday June 6th @ 2:00.  Entry fee for this is $5 to help offset the costs of team shirts.  There is already a sign up sheet posted downstairs.  I would encourage all to participate.

We remain in the same division against the Perth & Smith Falls clubs this year.

Qualification format will be Stableford scoring of 1 point bogey; 2 points par; 3 points birdie; 4 points eagle.

Older Juniors are encouraged to volunteer.

  Priority for this event will be for: Junior members first, children/grandchildren of existing Mississippi members second.  There will be a limited number of spots available, so register early!  There is NO COST!

2014 Intersectional Qualifying

To view the combined results click here - last posted July 18th

All,

   I have summarized the results of the qualifying rounds for all to see (see attachment).  As of this time, I have NOT selected the team.
The first match is tentatively set for Monday June 30th. @ Mississippi.  I will give each of you one week from today to enter rounds and re-calculate points based on accurate handicaps.  It is very important to have our team selected by June 27th.  Please let me know your availability.

  If you fail to enter scores to establish your handicap by June 27th, I will have no choice but to exclude you from the first set of junior intersectional matches being held at Mississippi on Monday June 30th.  I realize that this may be a harsh decision, but I feel it is a fair one.
Keep in mind, that due to scheduling of various matches, players will move up and down according to player availability.  Last year we had to play short in one event.  I will always try to field a team of 12 players.

  There has been much discussion regarding this years qualifying and I have had input from many of you.  I am listening and I want to do what is fair and follow the rules placed upon us.  The following are points I would like each of you to consider.

  The matches are played using the Net Stableford scoring system (OVGA decision).  We will be playing other teams under the same conditions and guidelines.

  I  encouraged everyone to play regardless of ability, but did stress the need for legitimate handicaps to be established.

  I am a strong believer in the handicap system, if used correctly, it creates an even playing field allowing anyone to compete, not just low handicappers.  This is not a gross event, nor a match play event.

  If there are some of you that do not want to be on the team due to seeing the format as unfair, then I do not want you to represent the Mississippi Golf Club.

  I cannot however, place someone on the team without justification of playing within the guidelines.

  Some of our young juniors show great promise but as of yet, have not entered enough games to establish a handicap.  However, if you enter more scores, I will adjust your handicaps and adjust the point totals.  I will also continue to monitor the handicap system and if there is insufficient data to warrant the handicaps shown, further steps may be taken.

  I am not as worried about the low handicap players regardless of number of rounds played in 2014 as there is sufficient data from previous years to back up the handicap number.

   Lastly there are still many of you that have not provided me your age as of August 1st, 2014.  I would like to establish the 4 winning age categories for the OVGA tournament I promised.

 For the players involved, please respond to me as quick as you can.

Rick

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Everyone,
 Generally, I thought it was a poor showing on Sunday, some had signed up and did not show, others I knew would not be there.  If you did not sign up, please give it a try.  It boils down to a game of golf with your peers.  It does not matter what your score is, it is just the participation I would like to see go up.  You compete against yourself and the course, no pressure.
  For the 13 players who did compete, here are the standings.  I have issues with handicaps for those that have no handicap in the system or have not put many games in this year.  Therefore, I will hold off on confirming all team spots until I see evidence of game entries onto the Golf Canada website.
  As you can see, if a person makes par on a hole they get 2 strokes on, by determination of their handicap, it results in a net eagle (5 points!)
  One last note, for those that are playing, I need to know your age as of August 1st, 2014. (please email me with this). This is so I can determine the winners of each age class to enter into the OVGA tournament I promised.
